Ngữ pháp sơ cấp – Unit 18: I HAVE DONE (PRESENT PERFECT) AND I DID (PAST)

I. Kiến thức cơ bản

A. Những trường hợp dùng thì Quá khứ đơn

With a finished time (yesterday/last week etc.), we use the past (arrived, saw, was, etc.)

Với một thời gian đã kết thúc (hôm qua/tuần trước, …) chúng ta sử dụng thì quá khứ đơn.    

Past             + finished time
Quá khứ      + thời gian đã kết thúc

We arrived
(Chúng tôi đến nơi)		Yesterday (hôm qua)
last week (tuần trước)
at 3 o’clock  (lúc 3 giờ)
in 2002  (vào năm 2002)
six months ago (sáu tháng trước)

Chú thích:
Yesterday, last week, in 2002, six months ago: Finished time

Do not use the present perfect (have arrived/have done/have been etc.)  with a finished time
Không sử dụng hiện tại hoàn thành với thời gian đã kết thúc

– I saw Paula yesterday. (not I have seen)

Tôi đã gặp Paula hôm qua. 

– Where were you on Sunday afternoon? (not Where have you been)

Anh đã ở đâu vào chiều Chủ nhật? (not Where have you been)

– We didn’t have a holiday last year. (not We haven’t had)

Chúng tôi đã không có kỳ nghỉ vào năm ngoái.

– What did you do last night?  

Tối qua anh đã làm gì?

– William Shakespeare lived from 1564 to 1616. He was a writer. He wrote many plays and poems.

William Shakespeare sống từ năm 1564 đến năm 1616. Ông  là một nhà văn. Ông  đã viết nhiều vở kịch và bài thơ.

(*) Use the past to ask When …? Or What time …?
Sử dụng thì quá khứ đơn để hỏi When …? Hoặc What time …?

– When did you buy your computer? (not When have you bought your computer?)

Bạn đã mua máy tính của bạn khi nào? 

– What time did Andy go out? (not What time has Andy gone out)

Andy đã ra ngoài lúc nào? 

B. Compare (So sánh giữa thì hiện tại hoàn thành và thì quá khứ đơn)

Present perfect (Hiện tại hoàn thành)Past (Quá khứ)
I have lost my key.      
Tôi đã mất chìa khóa.
(= I can’t find it now)
(= Tôi không thể tìm thấy nó bây giờ)

Ben has gone home.      
Ben đã về  nhà.
(= he isn’t here now)
(= anh ấy không còn ở đây bây giờ)

Have you seen Kate?      
Bạn có thấy Kate không?
(= Where is she now? )
(= Cô ấy đang ở đâu lúc này? )

Have you ever been to Spain?
Bạn đã bao giờ đến Tây Ban Nha chưa?
(= in your life, until now)
(= trong cuộc đời của bạn, cho đến bây giờ)

My friend is a writer. He has written many books.
Bạn tôi là một nhà văn. Anh ta đã viết nhiều cuốn sách.

The letter hasn’t arrived yet.
Bức thư vẫn chưa đến.  

We’re lived in Singapore for six years.
Chúng tôi đã và đang sống ở Singapore được 6 năm.
(= We live there now)
(= Bây giờ chúng tôi vẫn đang sống ở Singapore)		I lost my key last week.     
Tuần trước tôi đã bị mất chìa khóa.



Ben went home ten minutes ago.     
Ben đã về nhà 10 phút trước.  



Did you see Kate on Saturday?
Bạn có gặp Kate vào thứ 7 không?



Did you go to Spain last year?      
Bạn đã đi đến Tây Ban Nha năm ngoái phải không?



Shakespeare wrote many plays and poems
Shakespeare đã viết nhiều vở kịch và bài thơ

The letter didn’t arrive yesterday.
Bức thư đã không đến ngày hôm qua.

We lived in Glasgow for six years, but now we live in Singapore.
Chúng tôi đã sống ở Glasgow trong sáu năm, nhưng bây giờ chúng tôi sống ở Singapore.

II. Bài tập vận dụng

Exercise 1: Complete the answers to the questions
(Hoàn thành câu trả lời cho các câu hỏi)

1. Have you seen Kate? => Yes, I saw her five minutes ago
2. Have you started your new job? => Yes, I last week
3. Have your friends arrived? => Yes, they at 5 o’clock
4. Has Sarah gone away? => Yes, on Friday
5. Have you worn your new suit? => Yes, yesterday

Exercise 2: Are these sentences OK? Correct the verbs that are wrong. (The verbs are in bold.)

I‘ve lost my key. I can’t find it. => OK

Have you seen Kate yesterday? => Did you see

Exercise 3: Put the verb in the present perfect or past.

Exercise 4: Put the verb in the present perfect or past
(Chia động từ ở thì hiện tại hoàn thành hoặc quá khứ)

1. A: Have you ever been (you/ever/be) to Florida?
B: Yes, we went (go) there on holiday two years ago
